What is a miniSD?
MiniSD is a small memory card based on flash memory technology. The miniSD was introduced in 2003, as a smaller version of the standard SD Memory Card, by the SD Card Association.

Where can I use my miniSD?
The main purpose for the miniSD’s introduction was the need for a smaller memory card, mostly to be used in mobile phones and ultra small digital cameras. Nokia plans to introduce three mobile phones later this year with a slot for miniSD memory card. The models that will accept the miniSD memory card are the 6280, 6270 and 6265. This is a remarkable move from Nokia since it is the first time Nokia uses the mini SD standard. In older models Nokia supported only the RS-MMC memory card standard.


How do I use my miniSD?
You just need to plug the mini sd card into the slot and directly transfer your digital photos or digital music from and to your miniSD. With a SD Memory Card adapter the mini SD turns to a full size Secure Digital card and allows it to be used with in all SD Memory Card slots.

How fast is my mini SD?
The regular transfer speed is 12 X or 1.8 MB/sec, but it can be found in much faster speeds. Trancent announced the introduction of 80x or 12 MB/sec miniSD. The high-speed read and write rates for mini sd enables digital files to be stored and played more quickly.



  • How much data can my miniSD hold?
    Mini SD memory cards are currently available with a storage capacity from 32 MB to 1 GB. For your reference a 512 MB mini SD card can store about 100 digital photos taken with a 5 mega pixel digital camera or around 120 MP3 songs. The miniSD memory card can also be used to store all kind of digital files.

    Dimensions of miniSD (mini SD)?
    Mini SD provides the same transfer speed as a standard Secure Digital card but is 60% smaller. The miniSD was among the smallest memory cards in the market during its introduction. Today the third generation of Secure Digital standard, micro SD/TransFlash, is much smaller. The dimensions for miniSD are: 21.5mm x 20mm x 1.4mm.

    The miniSD is more expensive than standard Secure Digital cards. But still the mini SD is a priceworthy memory card. The best prices for mini sd can often be found by searching on the internet. We recommend you to check miniSD prices continuously since they change from day to day. Brand should not matter since the mini SD is a standardized product. Still differences can be found in transfer speeds.


    Should it be spelled miniSD or mini SD? Both of those spellings are rather frequent. The original spelling by Secure Digital are miniSD, but mini SD are more used by memory card buying consumers.
